My NBA Best Bet for Tuesday was:
| 9:35pm ET on TNT NBA San Antonio Spurs at New Orleans Hornets |
| The Pick: New Orleans Hornets -3.5 |
The Hornets have got to be thrilled to be home. New Orleans saw their 2-0 series lead vanish in Texas. The Spurs hammered the Hornets 100-80 in Game 4, which followed a 110-99 beating in Game 3. The Hornets are 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS in home playoff games this season. Their average margin of victory in those games is 15.6 points. San Antonio is 1-3 SU and ATS in road playoff games this season, with all 3 losses coming by double digits. The Spurs shot 51% in Game 4. The Spurs are 0-3 SU and ATS this season as a road dog after shooting 50% or better. The Hornets are 18-3 SU and 15-6 ATS this season after allowing 50%-or-better shooting. That includes 8-1 SU and 6-3 ATS at home. New Orleans is a PERFECT 10-0 ATS this season in home games revenging a same-season loss (The average score was New Orleans 104.7, Opponents 87.1).Expect the home cooking to continue and lay the small number with New Orleans tonight. |

My Baseball Best Bet for Monday was:
8:05pm ET
MLB
San Diego Padres (Wolf) at Chicago Cubs (Zambrano)
The Pick: Chicago Cubs (listed pitchers) RUN LINE -1.5 +115
San Diego is hitting just .231 on the season, .236 vs. righties (3.2 RPG), and .225 at night (2.9 RPG). But they’re coming off an 11-hit outing yesterday. That’s actually good news for us, as the Padres are 0-8 this season off a double-digit hit performance. On the other end of the offensive spectrum is the Cubs. Chicago is batting .313 at home (6.9 RPG), .288 vs. lefties (6.6 RPG), and .280 at night (6.2 RPG). The Cubs are 14-6 at home, while the Padres are 6-14 on the road.San Diego’s Randy Wolf is struggling. Wolf owns a 6.75 ERA and 1.750 WHIP in his last 3 starts. The Padres are 1-3 in Wolf’s road starts this season. The bullpen won’t be much help either, as the Padres pen owns a 4.95 ERA and 1.651 WHIP on the road.
Chicago’s Carlos Zambrano is on fire. He owns a 1.80 ERA and 1.109 WHIP on the season, including a 0.42 ERA and 1.125 WHIP in his last 3 starts. He should have no trouble with these light-hitting Padres, especially considering he owns a 1.94 ERA and 1.187 WHIP in 7 career starts vs. the Padres. The Cubs bullpen sports a solid 1.149 WHIP at home, where they’ve converted 6 of 7 save chances.
The hitting, starting pitching, and relief pitching all favor the Cubs, which makes this a no-brainer. Take the Cubs with Zambrano on the run line over San Diego and Wolf.
